Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Canada Basketball Fee?

The Canada Basketball Fee is a $9 annual payment that goes directly to Canada Basketball (renews every September). We've separated it from the regular registration fee to ensure that it's only paid once per year. This change saves you money -- you now only pay it once per year, even if you play in multiple leagues or on more than one team in the same season.

For example, if you paid it for CBL league in Fall/Winter, you won't need to pay it again for Sea Bears Youth League in Spring. Or if your CBL team plays up in Showcase, you will only have to pay it for the first team.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes, financial assistance is available through KidSport. To apply, visit KidSport Winnipeg. Once your application is approved, KidSport will send us a cheque, and we will refund the amount they approve.

Please note that refunds are typically processed in batches during the first week of the following month.

When is my next CBL game?

To support coaches and athletes who participate in both Showcase and CBL, clubs have asked that CBL games be scheduled on fall weekends without Showcase events. This approach allows coaches to be fully present with their teams and ensures players in both programs receive the best possible experience.

Once the fall Showcase season concludes, CBL transitions to a regular weekly schedule beginning in January, with 10-11U games played on Saturdays and 12-13U games played on Sundays.

What if a player is being too aggressive or not playing fair during a game?

Referees are responsible for managing player behaviour during games, including aggression and unsportsmanlike conduct. In Basketball Manitoba-sanctioned leagues, officials are assigned through the Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials (MABO).

According to MABO, "all referees are registered, trained, and qualified to officiate; however, their development is ongoing, with continued training and evaluation happening throughout the season. MABO officials do their best to manage player behaviour and make fair decisions in real time." As with any level of basketball, including the professional level, not every infraction will be caught, and occasional errors are part of the human element of officiating.

Even so, if you believe a serious incident (such as unsafe or unprofessional behaviour) was missed or not handled properly, the correct protocol is to raise the concern with your team's coach or club. The club can review the situation and file a formal complaint directly with MABO (who oversees referee conduct, training, and standards across the province), with Peg City included for awareness.

Peg City records all games for security and code of conduct purposes and we can assist Clubs in locating relevant game footage, if needed. Our shared goal is to maintain a positive and respectful environment where players can learn, compete, and enjoy the game.

What if I have a problem with how a referee was calling the game?

Our Code of Conduct expects players, spectators, and coaches to respect the decisions made by officials. That said, we understand it can be difficult to watch a game when calls don't go as expected and it's natural to feel frustrated at times.

How can I ensure my stats are accurate?

To ensure your stats are accurate, it's important that all Peg City rules and procedures are followed:

1. Player Registration: All players must be properly registered to their team on RAMP (via the Peg City website).
2. Jersey Numbers: Uniforms must have visible numbers on the back for every game, and jersey numbers cannot be duplicated or shared.
3. Coach Check-In: Coaches are required to submit an official team roster at the start of the season and must check in with the score table before each game to confirm player numbers. If any of these steps are missed, stats may not track correctly.

Players can also review their profiles in the app and submit any missing or incorrect stats through the Support Ticket system if they would like to make updates.

To do this:
1. Search for your profile in the app by name or jersey number.
2. Tap "Claim" to take ownership of your profile.
3. Submit any stat corrections using the in-app Support Ticket system.

Claiming your profile helps ensure that your jersey number, personal details, and game stats are accurate and up to date.

I am missing stats from a game that hasn't processed. Now what?

Stats only appear once a game has been successfully uploaded and fully processed. If a game is missing from your profile, it usually means the footage did not upload correctly or is still within the normal processing window.

Check for game footage:
- AI-camera games: Upload to CBC Local Sports within 2-5 business days (CBC link available in our Instagram bio)
- iPad-recorded games: Upload to Peg City's YouTube channel within 5-10 days
- Club recordings: Your club may have recorded the game separately
*In rare cases (~2%), technical issues may occur during recording or upload.

If footage exists:
If you're able to locate full-game footage (CBC, YouTube, club recording, or your own), submit it directly through the Support Ticket system in the app for review.

Important note:
Player stats have no bearing on team playoff rankings. Official standings and seeding are based strictly on verified game sheets. Stats are for personal records only.
